Bahasa Melayu Coach

Schools will finally reopen next Monday and Global Oak Tree Scholars’ (GOTS) Bahasa Melayu coach Nur Ashikin Mohamed Hariri can’t wait to see her “children”.

Ever since the Movement Control Order (MCO) began on March 18, Ashikin has been learning new ways to teach the national language online.

“We had online classes almost immediately after MCO was announced as we had recorded video lessons more than two weeks earlier,” said Ashikin.

“After MCO was extended, we switched to live classes. It was quite an interesting experience.

“I have had to learn about new websites and tools for distance learning. The lessons went well but nothing beats having the scholars in front of me,” she said.

Ashikin said the MCO helped her to learn a new skill and rediscover her love for reading.

“During the MCO I actually learned watercolour painting. It is relaxing,” said Ashikin.

“I also read more and I’m currently reading two books – Beraraklah Awan Pilu by Abdul Latip Talib and Unshakeable by Aiman Azlan.”

She added she also took the time to enjoy walks in the park and had plenty of quality family time.

Ashikin’s first class back in GOTS will be with the Year 4 scholars and she is now looking forward to reconnecting with her “family” in school, including her fellow coaches.
