GOTS’ stand-out coaches add value to teaching
The teachers or coaches as they are known at Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS), know they are special.
This is because at GOTS, they need to stand out.
Parents who send their children to GOTS secondary which opens in January, can rest assured the top-notch coaches will guide their children, or scholars as they are known, to a new level, not just at school but in life.
Chithra Nair, an educator for over 25 years, will be involved in coaching scholars in GOTS’ FinancialSmart programme.
“We will teach the scholars money management. We will even take it a step further and teach them about investment and property,” said Chithra.
“It is a comprehensive and valuable life skill which will help the scholars when they leave us.”
She added students will be taught the value of money and the importance of saving using a learn-through-play approach that includes play money, fun activities, simulation and quick quizzes.
Working in collaboration with MoneyTree, GOTS’ FinancialSmart programme aims to improve financial literacy among youth and also getting parents to play an active role in their children’s financial literacy education.
Chithra’s sentiments on how scholars can benefit from the school were echoed by the other coaches at GOTS.
Dr Vicknesha Santhirasegaram said: “Our unique selling points are the skills we teach the students. It is different from what others are doing as we don’t just teach from textbooks but also share our experience.”
Ranjitan Mohgan and S. Dharshini said the family-like environment makes learning fun as they try to do things outside the box or what normal schools wouldn’t do.
They said they do not just focus on academics but would incorporate fun activities to make it easier for scholars to understand and remember their lessons.
Lizamaria Paramasivam, meanwhile, said one of the core tenets of GOTS is to give individual attention to students.
“We will make sure everyone in the class will be able to keep up with the lessons. If they fall a bit behind, we will take them aside and give extra coaching.”
