GOTS does its part to combat Covid-19
Covid-19, a disease caused by the coronavirus, has been labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) last week.
At Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS), we are doing our part to ensure our scholars and coaches are in a safe, clean and healthy environment.
“We have taken several steps to ensure our scholars are free from harm and our coaches have started preparing lessons on videos,” said co-founder Veronica Shepherdson.
“This way, even if we have to close the school, the lessons won’t be affected.
“We will give the parents the option of keeping their kids at home and start using video lessons.”
She added other steps taken are:
* Regular talks on good hygiene.
* Each scholar’s temperature is taken when they arrive at school.
* A slight fever results in the child being sent home.
* Coaches closely monitor scholars to ensure everyone is healthy at all times.
* Hand sanitisers are readily available around the school.
* Our crew regularly cleans and disinfects the school.
* Parents who have visited high-risk countries must quarantine their children at home.
* Monitoring coaches’ health.
“When dealing with young children and teenagers, we have to be extra careful,” said Shepherdson.
“That is why we have several safeguards or precautions in place to ensure we stay healthy.
“Covid-19’s symptoms are similar to influenza A and it is hard to tell them apart in the initial stages.
“We are not taking any chances when it comes to scholars who have the flu.
“It is better to be safe than sorry. We even had to cancel our school trips and other planned outdoor activities.”
She added the school would also suspend several proposed community projects until further notice.
