Deepavali Celebration

Deepavali Celebration

Coaches light up GOTS’ Deepavali celebration

Veronica Shepherdson was speechless for a moment.

The co-founder of Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) was in awe after witnessing three dance performances – two by the scholars and one by her coaches.

GOTS had its Deepavali celebration on Friday with the scholars and coaches dressed in their best traditional costumes.

“Watching you (scholars) perform the two dances was beautiful but I was very moved by the coaches’ performance.

“I had tears in my eyes. I hope all of you here know that if you went to any other school, you would never ever find a team of coaches as we have here,” gushed Shepherdson.

“I have never had the opportunity or delight to see my teachers perform for me. You are all so lucky.”

Besides the dance performances, Head of Pre-primary Chithra Nair explained the significance and history of the celebrations.

The scholars were also treated to two short video presentations about the Festival of Lights and were given a goody bag each.

“There is a story about Deepavali which says we are small flames from one great big flame. This means we are connected to each other,” said Shepherdson.

“It is such a beautiful concept – that we all belong to one big light and this is what GOTS is about. We are one, the coaches, staff and scholars.

“Each of you is a tiny spark, each of you carries a light. Each of you not only illuminates our lives but also your parents’ lives.

“I hope the next time you will wish each other ‘thank you for lighting up my day’.”
