Friendly rivalry as GOTS International School celebrates its best athletes
“I’d rather have this jersey than a trophy!”
That was how Harvir Singh Aujle teased his good friend Rushill Reuban at the recent Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) International School’s Sports Awards ceremony.
Harvir received an original Liverpool football club jersey for winning the school’s Fantasy Premier League, while Rushill earned a trophy for winning the Sportsmanship Award.
The Sportsmanship award is for the best overall athlete.
“At least I can wear this jersey. You are only going to leave that trophy on a shelf,” Harvir continued teasing his good friend.
Quick as a flash, Rushill replied: “Winning this award is a big surprise. But it also means I am better than Harvir!
“I’d like to thank the coaches for giving me this award. It is extra special, as this is my final year in school.”
Both Year 11 scholars, who joined the Shah Alam-based international school in 2019, have a friendly rivalry on and off the field, and were visibly happy with each other’s victories.
They were busy taking pictures and discussing how they would best each other ahead of this year’s Sports Carnival.
The Fantasy Premier League competition ran from September 2021, to last month. The scholars earned points based on the results and performances of players in the English Premier League.
Besides those awards, the school also gave prizes for its 5km Virtual Run, Young Athletes of the Year, Most Improved Player, Most Valuable Player, and Sports House logo design, name, and cheer competitions.
Co-founder Dr Veronica Shepherdson presented the prizes to the winners.
