Funky Munky

Funky Munky, is a unique programme to GOTS which is a creative and an innovative approach to the implementation of extra-curricular activities. Whilst other establishments, fix extra-curricular hours for after academic lessons, our cheekily coined session Funky Munky, is held between the hours of 12.15-1.00pm in the afternoon.

This out-of-the box approach effectively breaks the monotony of study and gives children a time to revitalize themselves through various programmes (other than PE) such as hip-hop dance, Japanese drums, speech and drama, taekwondo and ballet.

This adaptation to the time-table has done wonders in creating energy amongst the children making them eager to come to school every day

Your child will engage in creative/fun activities on a daily basis (aside from PE lessons) such as

Speech & Drama

Ball Games

Board Games

Why Dance is Important. Dance is more than the exploring of different ways to make a shape or learning a series of steps to music; it is a way of moving that uses the body as an instrument of expression and communication. Through dance, students learn teamwork, focus, and improvisational skills.

At GOTS we have a few options for kids to experiment with to see where their talents take them.

Did you know that beginning with ballet will help with tap dancing, hip-hop, jazz and other forms of dancing? That is just one little secret weíre letting you in on. Ballet dancers make it look effortless as they move across the stage. From the lifts to the toe points, many wonder how they can do it. Your kids can also be a part of this through the practice of classical ballet. Ballet classes can start for young kids around ages four and five. For them, being in front of all those mirrors and the bar is something new and exciting.

When a child is young, learning new things is easier for them. They can adapt and learn more quickly than when they are older. So, once a child begins in ballet at an early age, they are not only learning a valued art form but also getting trained for the life that is ahead of them. This is just the beginning, though. As a child continues to pursue ballet, youíll see more benefits emerging – especially when they become adolescents and into the teenage years

Some of the benefits of ballet for young kids are:

They learn to follow instructions

They gain a sense of discipline through learning new positions

They learn co-ordination, balance and how to control their bodies in motion

They are active and getting daily exercise

They become comfortable performing before groups

Taiko Drums/Japanese Drums

Taiko have a mythological origin in Japanese folklore, but historical records suggest that taiko were introduced to Japan through Korean and Chinese cultural influence as early as the 6th century CE. Some taiko are smilar to instruments orginating from India. Archaeological evidence also supports the view that taiko were present in Japan during the 6th century in the Kofun period. Their function has varied throughout history, ranging from communucation, military action, theatrical accompaniment, and religious caremony to both festival and concert performances.
