Good news on first day of new school term
Good news greeted Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) International School secondary scholars on the first day of the new term.
Co-founder Dr Veronica Shepherdson announced the school would resume outdoor physical education activities at the Sime Darby field in Bukit Jelutong.
The classes will start next Thursday.
GOTS International School stopped its outdoor physical activities classes early last year due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.
“We are excited to announce that we are going back to outdoor activities this year,” said Dr Shepherdson.
“I know many miss playing futsal, and other outdoor classes. Our PE coach (Mohd Ruszaiman Mohd Idrus) has drawn up some exciting plans, and cannot wait to get started.”
When they were away from school, the scholars held online boot camps with Ruszaiman.
The scholars also took part in a 5km running challenge during their December holidays, as GOTS International School believes in a healthy mind and body.
It was also the first day at the secondary campus for the Year 7 scholars, and some of them took a while to warm up to their new surroundings.
There was also a redesignation of lockers as the numbers at the Plaza Jelutong Campus were beginning to fill up.
GOTS International School vice-principal Kirijaa Ratanarajah said: “We have several new scholars joining us. That is a good sign. It is usually challenging to get secondary students to join.
“The first hour of the first day was all about the scholars familiarising themselves with the SOPs (standard operating procedures) in the era of Covid-19.
“The coaches reminded them what they can and cannot do. As much as we want them to mingle, we need to take precautions.
“As such, they will have their meals in their classrooms, instead of at the canteen.”
Over at the City of Elmina Campus, there was much laughter and joy as the pre-school, and primary scholars gathered for the first day.
