12 Jun GOTS Preparation
GOTS well prepared for school re-opening
There is still much uncertainty as to when schools will be allowed to reopen.
The Education Ministry announced standard operating procedures and guidelines on June 4 but has yet to say when children can go back to school.
Despite this, Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS), an international school with two campuses in Shah Alam, has already started preparations.
“From the moment the Conditional Movement Control Order came into effect (on May 4), we mobilised our cleaning crew to sanitise the school and to arrange the desks and chairs (for physical distancing).
“Once that was done, our administrative staff returned to work to handle any inquiries,” said GOTS co-founder Veronica Shepherdson.
“We may be on our half-term break now, but we are preparing for when schools are allowed to open. Whether we open a month from now or two months from now, we have started to prepare any possible scenario.
“My belief is if you start now, then you are well prepared.
“And if you don’t start, then you may wish you had. I would rather live a life of ‘oh wells’, then ‘what ifs’.”
It is this far-sightedness which also saw GOTS preparing for online classes before MCO was announced.
It began with pre-recorded video lessons before moving on to live classes.
Similarly, Shepherdson and her team are working hard in preparation for their next term which begins on June 22.
“There is no need to wait and see what or when the final decision on when we can go back to school. We must always be prepared.
“Because we prepared in advance and did not wait for the MCO announcement, we began our online classes almost immediately.
“As a result, we managed to finish the syllabus we had planned.
“I had thought it would be difficult (for online coaching) but the coaches, scholars and parents helped make it happen.
“The children were already doing revision for more than one week before we broke for the holidays.”
Shepherdson said the coaches and scholars miss each other terribly and can’t wait to go back to school and hope for some good news from the Education Ministry.
