GOTS, truly Malaysian

GOTS, truly Malaysian
Unlike many international schools in Malaysia, Global Oak Tree Scholars has a different approach – it hires only local teachers.
GOTS founder Veronica Shepherdson says there are ample qualified local teachers in Malaysia to meet the scholars’ needs.
“Malaysia is blessed with many excellent teachers and we want to hire only the best.
“We are not arrogant enough to say we do not need outside help, but we will only do so once we exhaust our search locally or if a candidate has outstanding credentials.”
Shepherdson is also aware of many grouses from local teachers who have been displaced by foreigners at other international schools.
“As such, we want to show our appreciation of local teachers – or coaches as they are called at GOTS – by making them the priority at our school.
“After all, we are a Malaysian institution.”
Shepherdson adds GOTS will help its teachers upskill by arranging for them to take the NLP for the Academics Certification from the American Board of Neuro Linguistic Programme (ABNLP).
“We will work out a financial scheme to make it easier for them to sit for the examinations,” she says.
“We want our teachers to be the best they can be.”
Located in Bukit Jelutong, GOTS secondary opens its doors in January and will offer the Cambridge International Secondary (IGCSE) Programme.
It will focus on English, English Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, ICT, Art, History, Geography, Music, Bahasa Melayu (compulsory) and Mandarin (optional).
Additional Mathematics, Economics, Accounting and Business Studies will be available for those in Year 10 and 11.
