Great things come in small packages

Great things come in small packages and this is just what Lindie Tan believes about Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS).

Having moved her daughter Madilynn Tan from a “huge international school” a little more than a year ago, Lindie’s initial reaction of GOTS was that it was “smallish”.

Though smaller than most international schools, some of which have been around for over 50 years, GOTS packs a mighty punch when it comes to delivering the best education – something Lindie and Madilynn can attest to.

“I wasn’t too keen in the beginning as I was used to Madilynn being in a huge school.

“However, in the time we have been here, I have found the nurturing spirit of the school and the coaches to be such a comfort,” said Lindie.

“Madilynn loves GOTS so much that she doesn’t want to miss a day and is sad when they have holidays.”

Lindie added Madilynn has found it easier to make friends with everyone at GOTS – something which was missing at her previous school.

“She has learnt to develop relationships much better with the other children and her confidence has grown by leaps and bounds,” said Lindie.

“The way the kids are taught at GOTS gives them the confidence they can do anything if they put their minds to it.

“The variety of extra-curricular activities is amazing.

“She gets to dance, sing, do arts and crafts – which she loves – among other things.

“Not many schools have arts and crafts for children who are in Year 4.

“The academic and artistic side of each child is encouraged and this will definitely make the children well-rounded individuals.”

Madilynn is also flourishing in her taekwondo lessons and recently earned a double promotion to orange belt after sitting for a grading examination by Taekwondo Malaysia.

She also won a gold medal at last month’s International Heros Taekwondo Cup.

For the record, taekwondo lessons at GOTS are free and are part of the Funky Munky classes which take place each day.

Extra taekwondo classes are also provided on Thursdays at GOTS’ City of Elmina Campus, Shah Alam under the tutelage of Master Mark Lim for a small fee.

Other programmes offered at GOTS include drama, ballet, Taiko Drums and hip-hop dance.
