Learning never ends at GOTS
There is a saying which goes ‘never stop learning because life never stops teaching’.
This is why Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) conducts refresher courses twice a year to ensure its staff remain A+ coaches.
Last Saturday, co-founder Veronica Shepherdson conducted a training and team building session for all the coaches.
It was a much-delayed activity as it was postponed from June due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) which saw schools shut.
The second refresher course will be at the end of the year.
The day-long event saw the coaches letting their hair down in the morning with some fun activities before they got into the serious stuff.
“These sessions are to update the coaches on what’s happening and also to build camaraderie,” said Shepherdson.
“We also delve deeper into the NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) for the academics and other techniques we use in GOTS.
“This is especially useful for the new coaches and a good refresher for the older ones.”
Shepherdson owns the copyright to the NLP for the academics which was developed with the American Board of NLP.
NLP extends practical ways to change the way you think, view past events, and approach your life. It shows you how to take control of your mind, and therefore your life.
Unlike psychoanalysis which focuses on the ‘why’, NLP takes a practical approach by focusing on the ‘how’.
You may not be able to control the world, but you can control how you react to it.
In NLP, there is a saying: “The conscious mind is the goal-setter, and the unconscious mind is the goal-getter”.
This is something Shepherdson tried to impart to her coaches.
At GOTS, the scholars are taught how best to adapt to the changing world and how they can change their view of what is happening.
But the coaches must first learn how to use NLP in the classrooms before they can share their knowledge with the scholars.
This is why GOTS takes steps to ensure the learning never ends for its coaches.
