23 Mar Play-based Learning
Play-based learning is important at Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) International School.
It is not just about reading books and memorising lessons but we immerse the scholars in them.
Play-based learning includes projects such as gardening, baking and cooking, dancing and singing and other activities which can promote critical thinking and creativity.
A perfect example of this is how our pre-schoolers are celebrating Dr Seuss month.
Dr Seuss, or Theodor Seuss Geisel, was an American children’s author, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator and filmmaker who sold more than 650 million books worldwide.
Dr Seuss was born on March 2, 1904, and died on Sept 24, 1991.
He was described as one who used “playful, rhythmic language, an anti-authoritarian tone, and whimsical, often outlandish, illustrations to help teach millions of children to read”.
His famous works include The Cat In The Hat, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Lorax, Green Eggs And Ham, and Horton Hears A Who!
The Cat In The Hat and The Lorax featured prominently in our pre-school scholars’ artwork as can be seen below.
They also indulged in some hand-painting.
