The Verdict – Virtual Workshops

The Verdict – Virtual Workshops

A huge success.

That was the verdict of the Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) coaches involved in the three FREE virtual workshops – English (June 27), Mathematics (July 4) and Science (July 11).

The two-hour workshops were open to students aged 10 to 14 and also gave incoming students a chance to see how lessons are conducted at the Shah Alam-based international school.

“The workshop was great but most importantly, the kids enjoyed it,” said GOTS’ Head of Science Dr Vicknesha Santhirasegaram.

“It was a new experience for us to conduct a virtual workshop.”

Her sentiments were echoed by English coach Nicole Beins.

“There was great participation and we are glad it went smoothly,” Beins said.

Before the Movement Control Order (MCO), GOTS conducted several workshops, including for arts and crafts, and even a Junior TEDx Talk.

But the school had to adapt to physical distancing rules during the MCO by organising virtual workshops.

Head of Mathematics Kirijaa Ratanarajah was also pleased with the outcome as she devised several fun games to teach the children maths.

One of the activities – Decode Maths – caught the eye of GOTS co-founder Low Lay Har.

“I sat in for the mathematics workshop and was amazed by the Decode Maths session.

“It really was an eye-opener as to how maths can be useful for so many things.”

GOTS combines the Cambridge International Curriculum with its own methodology that blends Eastern philosophy and family values with Western innovation and education.
