At GOTS we don’t judge, we guide.
Not every child learns at the same pace. You could be in the same class but some might understand things a little quicker than others.
That is why patience is important when dealing with young children and the willingness to understand their needs. Labelling is wrong and should be avoided at all costs.
That is why Saraswathy Krishnasamy @ Shuba is grateful to Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) for bringing out the ‘great’ in her son Dareshanan Sureendhran, who was recently named Student of the Month for January.
“Dareshanan has really blossomed since joining GOTS last June,” said a teary-eyed Shuba.
“He used to be timid and had self-esteem issues as he was not doing well in his studies.
“He was also wrongly labelled as suffering from dyslexia when he was younger as he used to jumble up the words he wrote.
“It was quite a shock for us to be told that but after consulting some doctors we discovered he actually had eyesight problems which we have resolved.”
Being an educator herself, Shuba said she is thankful GOTS understands how children learn and never pressures them.
“The nurturing and caring manner the school coaches the students brings out the best in them,” she said.
“Dareshanan loves it here and it shows in his results. I’m so happy to see him win this award.
“My daughter Havishaa, who is also in the school, has been a big help, guiding him along the way.”
Dareshanan’s father Sureendhran Subramaniam said: “I’m delighted to see the improvement in only six months. I’m happy for him as he really is shining in and out of school.”
GOTS co-founder Veronica Shepherdson, who presented the Student of the Month award to Dareshanan as well as a certificate of appreciation to his parents, was moved to tears when the family started hugging each other.
“We voted for Dareshanan as he has improved tremendously in his studies since joining us.
“Besides that, he is polite, hardworking and pushes himself hard to achieve his goals.
“He is also very helpful and charming … so charming I’m sure he would win a lot of votes if he goes into politics,” joked Shepherdson.
“His gifts come from the parents and I’m glad they are both here today to see him win this award.”
