Weekend family fun at GOTS
Filial piety, sense of togetherness and being a family. These are traits which make Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) ‘Definitely Different’.
And the international school wants to share the secret of what has made it successful by reaching out to its neighbours in Elmina, Bukit Jelutong and surrounding areas.
It will organise ‘Weekend at the heart of GOTS’ once a month from February where activities such as handicraft, performing arts and Junior TEDx Talk among others will be held.
The idea of ‘Weekend at the heart of GOTS’ is to show families they can have fun together in the school and it is part of the school’s community outreach programme.
Best of all, the family-oriented day-long event is free!
“We want to get to know our neighbours better and will launch this programme in February,” said GOTS co-founder Veronica Shepherdson.
“We will kick off with ‘Valentine’s at GOTS’ to start the programme. We will have different themes each month.”
She added the event would give families a chance to spend quality time by doing activity-based projects together.
“Instead of hanging out at a shopping complex, we want to offer families something ‘Definitely Different’ one weekend a month,” said Shepherdson, who has been an educator for over 30 years.
“Some of our scholars stay near the school – our primary campus is in Elmina East while the secondary campus is in Bukit Jelutong – and we want to reach out to them and the others in the surrounding areas.
