29 Jan What attracts parents to Global Oak Tree Scholars?
Without a doubt, it is the top-notch education which not only gives their children the smarts to navigate the hardest examinations but also life skills for when they leave us.
A lot of investment has gone in to hire A+ coaches which is why it may be unusual elsewhere – but not at GOTS – to have coaches who have a PhD.
While we focus on the academics, we don’t neglect performing arts and physical activities.
GOTS, an international school offering the Cambridge IGCSE programme and with two campuses in Shah Alam (City of Elmina and Bukit Jelutong), is continuously upgrading facilities. One new addition is a swimming pool which will be ready later this year.
Among the new additions this year at our secondary campus in Plaza Jelutong, Bukit Jelutong is a sports arena where our scholars can play futsal, basketball, archery, Frisbee and have their boot camp sessions.
There is also a running track and scholars can also play table tennis.
“Although not within our campus, we are waiting for Sunway Pyramid to get back to us regarding our request to have ice-skating lessons at its rink,” said GOTS co-founder Veronica Shepherdson.
“Another thing worth looking forward to is our swimming pool,” she said.
GOTS scholars won medals in an international taekwondo competition last year and the school has retained the services of Master Mark Lim to continue coaching.
These sporting activities are to encourage a healthy lifestyle as a healthy body equals a healthy mind.
Our secondary campus also underwent a facelift recently when its multipurpose hall was upgraded and hosted last year’s annual concert.
Head of Academics Gerard Abisheganaden, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Audio-Engineering from the Metronome Academy of A/V Engineering in Melbourne Australia, was happy with the improvements.
“The sound system is fantastic and is suitable not just for our concerts but also for other events,” said Abisheganaden, who is also a renowned musician and vocalist.
“We also held our graduation in the hall last year. It is the perfect setting for all our major events.”
The stage, lighting and sound system have certainly boosted the scholars’ confidence for their speech and drama classes.
After all, a star needs a perfect stage to shine.
At the City of Elmina Campus, there is a new playground and sandpit for the pre-primary scholars, while a wading pool will be ready soon. Scholars will also be able to enjoy al fresco dining on campus grounds.
“At GOTS, we won’t rest on our laurels and will continue to provide the best facilities for our scholars,” said Shepherdson.
“While we have received positive feedback from the parents, our aim is to continue adding more and more components.”
